So. I’ve made no bones about the fact that I love Kalso Earth Shoes. But now I’ve got another reason to love them.

Recently I was looking for the perfect winter boot — one to last me all winter. My new Kalso Earth Shannon Boots are so beautiful and comfortable, with a high-quality leather upper, a negative heel insole and excellent arch support. Excerpts from a very interesting interview about Kalso’s yoga instructor creator and how she came up with the negative heel, after the jump.

More pics to demonstrate the Kalso Shannon to you guys and also some of the technology behind it.

The negative heel, according to Kalso’s VP of Marketing, David Aznavorian, was invented in the late 1950s by Anne Kalso, a Danish yoga instructor, and is tilted at 3.7 degrees, or “roughly the difference between the heels and the toes when one is standing in the popular yoga position, ‘Mountain Pose.’ “

Kalso was “keen on the idea of trying to make wellness less of a some-of-the-time concept, and more of an all-of-the-time concept — something people could experience every day.” That makes sense to me! We’re all so busy, but we can incorporate wellness into our backs, legs and posture just by wearing good shoes!

My three favorite things about Kalso Earth Shoes right now:

1. That the toe box is wide and oh-so-comfortable (According to Aznavorian, “the wider toe box … is based on yoga principles … intended to re-distribute weight in the body, and ensure that the foot moved liberally through the gait cycle, as if ‘walking on the beach.’ Many high heels contradict this in design (i.e. loading the toes as the weight-bearing portion of the foot).”) and that arch support is very good.

2. That the new styles for this season, inspired by equestrian, motorcycle-chic and military influences, are so much more fashionable and rockin than in the past. Love it!

3. That Kalso has an “unwavering commitment to the environment where all styles use water-based adhesives, recycled soda bottle linings (where applicable), and one-piece packaging that does not require the use of any glue.” Brilliant!

There are so many more Kalso Earth Shoes for you to explore, including vegan ones. Check them out here.
